Updated Bank Director core courses
Beginning in February 2004, AABD contacted all of the state and banking agencies to
seek their input on proposed changes to AABD's bank director core courses. AABD has taken
in to account the agencies' comments and has recently adopted an amended core course for
it members and other bank directors.
Over a decade ago, AABD, through its division, the Institute for Bank Director
Education (IBDE), established a core course intended to cover the basic informational
needs of bank directors.
In recent years, with an increasing number of programs being offered to bank directors
by various providers, it is important that bank directors and the providers have a focus
on the most important subjects and skills that should be taught in these programs.
- The amended core course is designed to accomplish several
objectives:
- Assist providers and bank directors to focus on the most important subjects necessary
for bank directors
- Encourage providers and other qualified organizations to offer quality educational
programs and materials specially designed for bank directors
- Create a national and uniform standard by which bank directors may measure their
educational and informational advances
- Utilize the core course in the Director Education Certification program that may lead to
discounts on D&O insurance and enhanced insurance coverage against risk of personal
liability.
