American Association of Bank Directors Announces Appointment of Martin Lowy to Board
of Advisors
December 3, 2008; Bethesda, Maryland
The American Association of Bank
Directors (AABD) announced today that it has named Martin Lowy to its Board of
Advisors.
Mr. Lowy has had a distinguished career
in banking and banking law. He spent 20 years
practicing banking law with large New York law firms, served as Vice-Chairman of a large
regional bank, and has written several books on banking and corporate governance matters.
Mr. Lowys publications include High Rollers: Inside the S&L Debacle (Praeger
1991), the leading book on the S&L debacle; Basic
Guide for Audit Committee Members (1993); Practical
Handbook for Bank Directors (Financial Services Press 1995); and Corporate Governance for Public Company Directors (Aspen
Publishers 2003). He is currently working on
projects relating to the history of financial fraud since World War II and an
investigation of the causes of the current sub-prime mess.
Marty Lowy brings to AABD a wealth
of practical experience and expertise in banking law, corporate governance, and public
policy as it may affect the banking industry, Keith Dalrymple, President of AABD,
said. During this period of enormous
challenges to the American economy and the banking industry, Martys extensive
experience during the S&L crisis and his extraordinary insight will be invaluable to
AABD, its members, and policy-makers in the Executive Branch, the U.S. Congress, and the
federal and state banking agencies.
Founded in 1989, the non-profit American
Association of Bank Directors is the only trade group in the United States solely devoted
to bank directors and their information, education, and advocacy needs. The Institute for Bank Director Education was
established in 1993 as the educational arm of AABD. Its
purpose is to act as a clearinghouse for education programs designed for bank and savings
institution directors that support the nationally recognized Director Certification
Program.
